Sotogrande or the Marbella area: choosing your base

Compare two distinct bases for coastal living, sport and the journeys that matter to you.

Sotogrande: marina and sporting surroundings

Sotogrande is in the municipality of San Roque, in Cádiz province. Its marina, golf courses and polo facilities give it a distinctive setting. Compare marina apartments with homes farther inland; they offer different access to the water and daily services. If sport is central to your plans, confirm club access and current arrangements directly rather than assuming membership comes with a property.

Marbella: choose a specific neighbourhood

The Marbella area offers different settings, including central Marbella, Puerto Banús, Nueva Andalucía and San Pedro de Alcántara. A town-centre apartment and a residential home away from the centre should not be treated as the same alternative. Decide which neighbourhood matches your routine before comparing it with a precise Sotogrande address.

Plan around your real journeys

Map regular trips to work, school, healthcare and the airport you expect to use. Test routes at the times you would travel and include parking and access to the home. If Gibraltar forms part of your plans, allow for border formalities and variable waiting times. School proximity and a nearby sports club do not guarantee places or access.

Compare the home as well as the destination

Compare homes of similar size, condition and outdoor space, then assess sun exposure, noise, maintenance and recurring charges. Prioritise Sotogrande if its surroundings and your activities there fit your plans; prioritise a Marbella neighbourhood if more of your routine is based there. Neither destination is universally better. Tell us where you expect to spend your time and we can narrow the search.
